The XXI Festival of Pupusas was held in the municipality of Olocuilta, in the La Paz department, El Salvador. The event featured a competition and the creation of a giant pupusa. A large crowd gathered to admire and enjoy the giant rice pupusa during the celebration, which coincided with National Pupusa Day. During the event, dozens of people had to collaborate to place a giant rice pupusa onto a large griddle (comal). In El Salvador, the pupusa represents the history, unity, and creativity of the local people. Its preparation is passed down through generations and is a central part of the country's daily diet. It can be made with a base of corn or rice and filled with cheese, chicharrón, beans, or customized to each diner's taste.
