The El Salvador national team, coached by Hernán "El Bolillo" Gómez, has suffered another setback before facing Panama in the final matchday of the quadrangular stage on the road to the 2026 Concacaf World Cup. "El Bolillo" Gómez previously led Panama to their only World Cup as a coach. The last time he faced "La Roja" at the Rommel Stadium was when he was coaching Honduras in a qualifier that ended 1-1. The Salvadoran squad has been in Panama since last Friday, preparing for the qualifier. According to Salvadoran federation officials announced yesterday, forward Ordaz requested special permission from the coaching staff to resolve a personal and professional career matter, which was granted by the staff led by "El Bolillo" Gómez. The Salvadoran team, already eliminated from any chance of reaching the 2026 World Cup, will have four absences, including right-winger Jefferson Valladares, Colombian-born Salvadoran forward Brayan Gil, and midfielder Mauricio Cerritos. Panama and El Salvador will face off tomorrow at the Rommel Fernández Stadium at 8:00 p.m. to close out Group A of the qualifiers. The latest was yesterday, when player Nathan Ordaz, who plays for the Los Angeles FC (LAFC) team in the US MLS, was granted leave.
