The president of El Salvador, Nayib Bukele, has acquired a new property valued at one million dollars on El Flor beach, in the western part of the country. This land, located in a Protected Natural Area, is noted for being home to sea turtles, migratory birds, and a whale-watching point.
According to journalistic investigations, to build in this protected area, Bukele would need to obtain permits from both the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources and the municipality of Sonsonate Centro. However, no requests have been filed to build on this property so far. It is noteworthy that this land becomes the third most expensive acquisition made by Bukele and his family in the last three years.
The acquisition of this new land adds to a series of properties that Bukele and his close circle have purchased in recent years, totaling a value of 10.5 million dollars, with a combined area of almost 365 hectares. Meanwhile, the economic situation in El Salvador has worsened, with an increase in poverty and extreme poverty since Bukele took office in 2019.
The million-dollar land purchased by Bukele includes a strip in the Protected Natural Area of Los Cóbanos, with access to a beautiful beach with coral reefs. Sale documents showed that the purchase was made through the company Bu-Ro S.A. de C.V., of which Bukele is a co-founder along with his wife Gabriela Rodríguez.
This beach, described as a coarse-grained and golden-colored sandy area, is surrounded by a concrete wall and has access to the sea. Furthermore, it is highlighted that the environment is considered a RAMSAR site, meaning it is a vital habitat for biodiversity and an essential resource for human life.
